Located approximately 15 miles northwest of Chicago, the village of Glenview had 350 residents when it was incorporated in 1899. The population of this quaint village has grown substantially, and today more than 45,000 people call the area home. Plentiful transportation options ranging from rail to expressways have made Glenview an ideal choice for commuters. The village of Glenview is one of the area’s premier suburbs, with a vibrant community and fine amenities.
Glenview real estate, similarly to most other suburbs of the North Shore, is highly valued and encompasses many styles. Glenview homes range from modest ranches and split-levels to more expensive traditional homes, mansions, townhouses and condominiums in all price points. Glenview consistently attracts buyers with families, looking to take advantage of the top-ranked elementary and high school system.
The Glenview suburb, one of the affluent communities of the North Shore, is known for its gorgeous public spaces and exceptional public education system. In the late 1800s, the Northfield Township consisted of several different sections with various names; a decree from the U.S. Post Office required that these sections be given official designations. By popular vote, the residents declared their section of the township “Glenview” in 1895, and within four years it had incorporated as its own village. Much of the area remained farmland until post-World War II, when developers such as Tom Sullivan began to craft the current character of the Glenview suburb. The landscape also changed dramatically in 1995, when the local Naval Air Station was closed by the Department of Defense—in the years since, the land has been turned into “The Glen,” which features homes, shops, restaurants, parks and more. Other features of the Glenview suburb include “The Grove,” a historic area of prairie which includes nature trails, historic buildings, and a log cabin that dates back to the 1850s, a burgeoning corporate headquarter presence, and a 20-acre working farm that is currently used for educational purposes.
