Explore The Great Indoors

Chicago winters are notoriously unpredictable, so having a solid plan can help keep the family from going stir crazy in the coldest of months. Looking for something to do? Check out some of our favorite indoor activities across the city and suburbs.

  • Take a walk on the wild side at the Pritzker Family Children’s Zoo. Check out Wild Sapling Play Forest and reach new heights at the Treetop Canopy Climbing Adventure, all while going nose to nose with some of the coolest river otters you’re sure to meet. 2001 N Clark St, Chicago
  • Named Chicagoland’s “Best Rainy Day Activity Site” by Chicago Magazine, the Exploritorium in Skokie is the perfect spot to spend a cold winter day. Travel through nearly two-and-a-half stories of tubes and tunnels or start a family band in their music room—this place has it all! 4701 Oakton St, Skokie
  • The ultimate indoor adventure park, Urban Air is so much more than just your run of the mill trampoline park. From go-karts to the indoor Sky Rider coaster, this fun-filled attraction has locations throughout the suburbs. Visit urbanairtrampolinepark.com for more details.
  • Discover something new at Schaumburg’s LEGOLAND®. Scope out Chicago in miniature, build and test your very own LEGO® racer, or join in a Master Model Builder workshop all under one roof. 601 N Martingale Rd, Schaumburg
  • Grab a bite at Little Beans Café, located in Chicago and Evanston. Enjoy a full menu of delicious treats and Intelligentsia coffee while the kids enjoy Little Bean Village, a play space that will stretch your kid’s imagination on a blustery day. Visit littlebeanscafe.com for locations and hours.

date-night

Make Date Night Great Again

Just because there’s a winter chill doesn’t mean you can’t wow your date with an amazing night on the town.

Try a little friendly competition over a game of ping pong (AceBounce, 230 N Clark St, Chicago) or try your hand at a one-of-a-kind hybrid sport (WhirlyBall, 1825 W Webster Ave, Chicago).

Recently minted the Beer Capitol of America, Chicago is home to the most breweries in the country. Sample a brew inspired by Latin flavors (Cruz Blanca,  904 W Randolph St) or indulge in some interesting pairings (Moody Tongue Brewing, 2136 S Peoria St).

Transport yourself to a warmer climate at a tiki bar (Lost Lake, 3154 W Diversey Ave) or cozy up around the fireplace while sipping your favorite cold weather drink with the skyline as your backdrop (Cindy’s, 12 S Michigan Ave).
