Michael Jordan Struggles to Sell Chicago Penthouse
While it’s difficult to say a celebrity like Michael Jordan has it rough, when it comes to his Chicago area real estate, the greatest basketball player off all time looks like Shaq at the free throw line. The Hall of Fame inductee’s former penthouse in the Gold Coast just dropped in price from $4.3 million to an even $4 million. While MJ won’t be there to greet you at the door for a showing, his ex-wife, Juanita Jordan, is the broker for the property.
Although the price drop still keeps Air Jordan’s old digs out of the reach of us mere mortals, the 8,000 square foot three level penthouse at 1100 N. Lake Shore Drive does offer quite a lot. The home features 12 rooms in total – with 4 bedrooms and 5.5. baths. Offering city and lake views on all three floors thanks to a mind-boggling 75 windows, the property also features Italian porcelain floors, rosewood walls, and custom millwork, according to Curbed.
In addition, there are four wet bars, a private rooftop deck, fireplace, private elevator foyer, rec room with built-in humidor and exhaust system and solarium with seating and eating areas. The Chicago celebrity home, built in 1978, also has a 3 car garage.
Jordan and his wife purchased the Gold Coast property in the 90s for $3 million. The couple divorced in 2006 with Jordan keeping his Highland Park mansion (another property he has had no luck selling) and Juanita holding on to the Chicago penthouse in the divorce settlement along with a payout of $168 million according to givemesport.com.
The Jordan’s were married for 18 years and had three children together before their divorce. The divorce settlement was one of the biggest in history according to BuzzFeed. MJ remarried last April and welcomed twin identical girls earlier this month with new wife Yvette Prieto.
