The LoopAs a first time home buyer, I didn't even know where to start. How do I find condos? How do I pick an agent? What do I even want to buy? Luckily, one of my colleagues said, "I have just the agent for you." Enter Susie Kanter of Dream Town Realty. Three words: Educated. Responsive. Caring.
Educated - Susie knows the downtown market really well. She's been doing this for almost 2 decades and used to own a mortgage company. When walking through potential places, she'd notice things that I didn't even think to look at. She's not shy, so she'll speak up and ask all of the questions that need to be asked. However, because she's been doing this for a long time, she is well versed in Realtor etiquette...so you know she'll work well with all parties and avoid personality conflicts (critical for this emotional process).
Responsive - It is amazing how quickly Susie responds to emails/phone calls. And it's not because she's not busy. She is just an amazing multi-tasker and is able to make you feel valued. She remembered all of the conversations we'd had, so I wasn't repeating myself. Whenever I had a question...and I had plenty...she really took the time to not only answer the question I asked, but also the ones I didn't even know to ask. She'd tell me the answer over the phone...and then she'd write it all in an email to make sure it hit home.
Caring - Susie's end goal is to make you happy. There was no pressure to buy...she really wants you to feel good about your decision, so she lays out the facts about the place, gives her opinion, and then leave it to you. She listened to my housing needs / wants and then built our condo viewing day around them. She kept her focus in the price point I established and never tried to pull me out of that range. I felt like she was with me throughout the entire process.
The timeframe from when I saw my now condo to when I signed the loan papers was less than a month! I couldn't have done it without her.

I think what makes her amazing is her ability to "think like me", but then also point out all of the things that I never thought about or forgot, but that actually matters a whole lot to me! She is honest and frank about everything and isn't afraid to ask the other agent the tough questions. Many times, I would be wondering how to ask the seller agent a certain question, and she would come out and ask the exact question I was thinking! And she is SO patient - she understands that buying a house is a big decision, and treats it with the care, as if she were buying the house herself. My first offer, we made it all the way to inspection, and a few negative things came out about the house. Neeti did extensive research for me to argue both sides, and when I decided to walk away from the deal, she didn't bat an eye. Speaking of bids, you want Neeti on your side during negotiations! I never would have gotten my home for the price I did without Neeti. It's hard to describe how much pressure there is when you have to negotiate for your future home, and I always felt Neeti was on my side. Moreover, I have not met a more knowledgeable real estate agent - I think it's because Neeti is naturally curious and loves to ask questions. By the time I closed on my new home, I felt 100% sure this was the right decision and looking back, I could not be happier. Finally, Neeti works with a lot of great people, so when it comes to lawyers, lenders, movers, she has a good recommendation (and all of them have worked out well). Bottom line is, if you're thinking of buying a place, you really should talk to Neeti first!

Lincoln SquareI feel that there isn't enough positive feedback in the world, so I wanted to reach out to tell you what a pleasure it was to recently work with Mason Barnes to purchase our new condo. While I am not an aggressive client, I'm certainly not low-maintenance. As soon as we got the mortgage approval, I was hoping to move quickly to get into a new place. However, we felt like we needed to thoroughly vet all possibilities with so many great values on the market. Though we could sense what we wanted, it wasn't very specific to one type of property or neighborhood, so I thought it would be difficult to convey our wants to Mason. It wasn't difficult at all. Not only did Mason set us up to see about thirty or more properties (at my request), but he was also immeasurably helpful in showing us the difference in quality and value between each property. By the second week, we had a clear front-runner, but we still needed the reassurance that there wasn't "something better" sitting on the market. This created some anxiety, as we wanted to see as many properties as possible while hoping that our top choice would not go under contract. Mason took a lot of time out of his schedule to take us to see properties after work, as well as full days on the weekend, so that we could see as many on our list in as short time as possible. Everything managed to work out perfectly, and we ended up buying the front-runner from our second week of viewing properties. I can't imagine the regret I would have if we missed this condo. This is my second property purchase in Chicago. For my first go-around, I used a realtor at Coldwell Banker that was randomly assigned to me through an inquiry that I made to the website. Through that process, I thought my realtor did a pretty good job. He sent me MLS listings, setup a few appointments, and walked me through my first real estate purchase. However, I never felt 100% sure that I was making the right decision. After working with Mason, I realize that I didn't have a very good realtor for my first purchase. He exceeded any expectations I had of what a realtor can do for me. It felt like Mason cared about our purchase as much as we did. Whether it was the small details of pointing out a street light that would be endlessly glaring from a potential front window, recommending amazing inspectors and mortgage lenders, or negotiating the purchase price that I passionately wanted, he did it all. He changed my perception of realtors in general, and I would highly recommend Dreamtown to any of my friends or family. We have been living in our new home for over a month, and I still get excited to come home every day. As cliche as it sounds, he found us the perfect home. Thank you for employing people who take such great care of their clients. We couldn't be happier.

I was relocating back to Chicago area after selling my home in Downstate IL. Evergreen ParkWe worked with Megan for several months in 2007 to purchase a home near Jason's new job in southern Chicago while we were living in Nashville, TN. Eventually, with Megan's help, we found exactly what we were looking for in Evergreen Park. In April, after talking to a few different agents, we were quickly convinced that we wanted to work with Megan. Even while we were still in Nashville and only able to look at houses online, Megan's obvious willingness to help was entirely evident to us; she was always very prompt and informative in her communication with us. When we traveled to Chicago for 10 days to find our home-to-be, Megan's input was invaluable. One of her greatest strengths is her ability to truly listen to her clients. As she became more familiar with our own tastes, preferences, and priorities, she tailored the list of homes we were to visit during our limited time, a process aided by her extensive knowledge of the market and neighborhoods. Megan was also attentive to issues we might not have realized without her guidance, such as neighboring properties or the amount of closet space in a home.
After we found the house we wanted to purchase (she probably knew by our reactions to seeing the home that we wanted to buy even before we had settled on that decision!), Megan worked with us and the selling agent to negotiate and draw up an appropriate sales contract. This turned out to be more difficult that any of us had anticipated, in part because we had to be back in Nashville during part of the process. Although the selling agent often seemed discourteous and unwilling to negotiate reasonably, Megan's impeccable professionalism and exceptional courtesy shone through, and she helped us arrive at terms we found satisfactory. We thank Megan for all the help in getting to the point of first-time homeowners and recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone looking to purchase a home.

The flyers were very professional looking and she did a great job capturing what the condo looked like in every picture. The little extra touches made a big difference. She went ahead and purchased a sushi set to add as decoration and color for the kitchen, and also a plant for the living room. I did get positive feedback on those things when I showed the place the one time when Misha was very sick. Let's just say that Misha was worth every penny! I definitely wouldn't have had enough time to show and sell my condo with my crazy schedule. Again, thank you for making my first condo selling experience an easy one!
