EdgewaterOver the course of several months during my search and successful property purchase I have worked with and got to know Elizabeth Amidon. During this time she has walked me through the mine field of buying a property in the US, as being from the UK where it is a very different process she has taken me through and explained how things are done in the US to aid both my understanding and to accustom me with the full aspects of what to look for in a property and the purchase process. Elizabeth explained very early on how things worked in the US with regard to what realtors do, and over the weekends we spent viewing properties, where she setup and assisted in my selection/viewing of properties, she got to know my tastes and what I was looking for, and this greatly helped me in removing those that would have been time wasters. We discussed many of the pros and cons for the kind of property I was looking for as we viewed properties and even when we found a property that I was clearly interested in and put an offer on she gave me sound advice on how to proceed and only a last minute bid from another buyer and the realization for what the property was worth stopped me from completing the sale. We continued on over the following few months, broken up by my business trips and holidays, then one weekend Elizabeth prepared some properties for me to view along with a couple I have requested, and as the day went on I found almost every property better than the previous and was definitely interested in each one that I saw, something that had never happened during any of the previous weekends viewings. We quickly arranged second viewings for 3 of the properties (I had a hard time setting the bar for which 3 I wanted to short-list) that I was interested in and she knew exactly which one I would say 'yes' to. During my actual purchase Elizabeth has been the main stay of explaining and orchestrating the various players to get both the necessary paperwork completed and following up with all concerned to ensure we kept on track when it seemed at times that no one else did. I would recommend her for a medal for putting up with me during this time as I asked for explanations and status updates from all concerned.

LakeviewI purchased my first home this past November, and I couldn't have found a better realtor- Steph Sullivan. She is absolutely amazing. Overall, she is a very trustworthy, thorough, knowledgable, kind realtor- and also a great negotiator! I would really recommend her to any homebuyer, as she will really put in the time with you and help you find the perfect home. Not only that, she'll continue to help you along even after you've closed!
Here's a little summary about my experience:
I began my home search over a year ago, and she answered every little question I had. When I decided I was finally serious about buying a home, Steph sat me down and walked me through every step of the way. She explained the process of homebuying and helped me set my expectations. Then the search began. She sorted through all the listings based on my criteria. I also did the same, and we would sit down and talk about each listing that either of us thought would be a good fit. We saw about 10 places on our first outing. She helped point out the positives/negatives about each place right after we left so it would be fresh in our minds. Afterwards, I narrowed it down to three places. Then the real analysis came. She sent me comparables, market research, and answered every question I got. I had a lot of questions... let's just say she was patient with me! She made sure the other agents were prompt at getting answers to me. Then came my first disappointment- I was in the negotiating process with a seller. It turns out the seller was really irrational and I decided to walk away. You would think Steph would be really frustrated with me, but she wasn't. She understood. We started from scratch again. We went out and saw another 8-10 properties. She was on vacation for a few days when I wanted to look at these properties. I told her I could just wait. But she insisted that I shouldn't and had her trustworthy co-worker go with me. She really is persistent! And I'm glad she was because I really fell in love with the condo I saw. We began negotiating and things went along smoothly. She got me a really great deal on the purchase, and made sure I got the best deal possible. She really wouldn't settle for less! She recommended a great lawyer (Dana Siragusa). And after 2 or 3 delays due to lender issues, I finally closed on my first home. Even after, she checked in with me every few days to make sure everything was going alright. She even sent me how-to videos when I didn't know how to work the water heater! I closed 4 months ago, and she still checks in every once in a while to see how everything is. She truly is a wonderful realtor, and someone I now consider as a friend. It's great to not only have an amazing realtor, but someone you can get along with- because you will spend A LOT of time with your realtor! Steph will go the extra mile for you, and that's really what you need in your home buying experience!

She was extremely organized when identifying potential properties and was available at all times with answers to my questions. I was taking this on completely by myself, and was not sure where to go or who to use. Well, I decided to trust my gut, and exclusively work with her. Honestly, I feel like I won the real-estate agent lotto! She was always available, responded to emails and calls instantly, and truly fought for my best interest throughout the entire process. I decided I would follow her blindly early, and she never lead me astray. When we finally found the place I wanted, and entered the bidding process, she set a price she would not let me go over. If we did not get to the price, she advised me to walk. Honestly, I would have paid more, and she knew it, but she was not in it for the extra commission. Despite her busy schedule, she's incredibly good at always being available and yet when she's showing you places, you never see her step away to talk to another client-we don't know how she does it. She was very professional in her manner of presenting properties, always making it a point to directly ask about all the pertinent information surrounding the property, e. g. special assessments, and when it came to our closing day, there were no surprises. In addition, my husband and I never felt pressured - we looked at each place calmly with Elizabeth there to either answer any questions that came to mind or to take them down to get answers. She gave just the right amount of guidance we first time home-buyers needed and we can't thank her enough for getting us into our first home!

BucktownEarly this year my husband and I made the decision to purchase a condo in Chicago. After renting for many years, this would be our first home purchase. I worked with Dana a few years ago when I was searching for a new apartment in Chicago. She was so accommodating and easy to work with during that process that I gladly reached out to her in December 2007 just to let her know we were going to start 'looking' to buy a home in the spring of 2008. Over the next few months, we communicated a few times while she waited for us to decide we were ready. What I appreciated most was she was not pushy at all. And when my husband and I finally decided to do our research and get the process going in March of 2008, Dana explained what we needed to do before looking at properties. She gave us referrals to a number of mortgage bankers to find out what we could afford and what to expect given our budget and required amenities. As first time homebuyers, Dana made the process so easy and walked us through step by step. We really felt she had our best interests at heart. When we started to look at properties, Dana was fantastic, allowing us to choose days and times that worked best for us to view properties. She coordinated all the visits, did not give her opinion until we shared ours and quickly understood what we were looking for in our first condo. For example, Dana knew us well enough to suggest looking at an additional property one day after our original search turned up no results. Although it was in a different neighborhood, she thought we would like the layout and interior and she wanted to make sure she understood exactly what we were looking for - and it was a perfect property! She was able to find exactly what we wanted and proved to us it did exist in the city, even though this was not in the right area. She gave us confidence that she knew what we were looking for and would find it! Soon after, we found the condo we eventually purchased. During negotiations, Dana always had our best interests in mind. Although the asking price was high, she would not allow us to make an offer that was over market value. The owner kept trying to argue for the list price and Dana provided him with facts - data about recent home purchases and also mentioning that he had an offer on the table at a time when people are struggling to get financing. Knowing how much we loved the place, Dana continued to work the seller down to our price point, and one week later she called us to say he had accepted! Without Dana, we would have either caved in to the higher price or walked away from the home which we love so much. We are now in the home we love because of her! We will work with Dana again in the future and have already recommended her to our friends. We would be happy to discuss our experience or serve as a reference for anyone who would like to work with Dana Dinello.
