A subdivision-size village surrounded by farmland, South Wilmington, Illinois is an intimate community of less than 700 residents in Grundy County - about 70 miles southwest of Chicago. This small residential haven, no more than eight blocks wide, is a patch of green in the middle of crop-laden fields and forested wildlife reserves. The median household income in South Wilmington was $41,600 in 2007 and there are just under 300 homes in the area.
Housing in South Wilmington, Illinois is almost exclusively single-family homes. The residences occupy green-grass lots dotted with trees and shrubbery. One-level frame houses are common, as are brick raised ranches and traditional two-story designs. Most properties in South Wilmington were built in the mid 1900s or earlier so buyers would be hard-pressed to find new construction in this quiet suburban community. The number of homes up for sale in South Wilmington is very limited - due to a lean real estate market to begin with.
