Shopping Chicago's Malls

If you prefer to have all your shopping needs in one convenient location, Chicago has quite a few malls that fit the bill. These malls are popular destinations for tourists and residents alike. All are easy accessible and usually near additional shopping districts. Many of these malls contain some of the top retails stores like Bloomingdales, Nordstrom's, and Saks Fifth Avenue. Shopping in Chicago in general can be a bit more expensive that other areas. However, many people don't mind this too much due to the accessibility consumers have to top notch shopping.

One of the interesting things about many of Chicago's downtown malls is that they are built vertically. Commercial real estate in Chicago is very expensive. It's much more feasible to build up than out, like many suburban malls. This gives city malls a unique feel. Even though they are quite large, you don't necessarily get that spread out feeling that people do in traditional enclosed malls. In addition, the upper levels of the malls can offer panoramic views of the city's skyline.

As you move further away from the city, mall styles change to the traditional, spread out 2- to 3-story malls. These malls might not have all the A-list shopping as their downtown counterparts, but still offer a wide variety of shopping options. Also outside the city limits there are a few malls that cater to outlet style shops. They are a bit outside the city, but also a favorite destination for that discriminating shopper.

Chicago's malls are filled with department stores, retail shops, and smaller boutiques that are sure to please even the biggest shopaholic. Many offer parking in a lot or structure, as well as being highly accessible by public transportation.
