Following French Interior Design

Paris is not only famous for setting the pace for fashion; its interior design is also celebrated for establishing home decorating trends. After this past fall’s Maison&Objet trade show, global trend ambassadors from Elle Décor magazine and respected home design blogs had some scintillating suggestions on what will be hot for 2018.

MIRRORS AND METALS

Brass continues to be a popular material for sinks and tubs, but 2018 will see it spread out to living spaces, including tables and ornamental statuary. Strategically placed wall mirrors are also trending, with asymmetrical shapes being a particular favorite in Paris.

WHITE AND GRAY ACCENTS

Incorporate bolder tones with simple, solid gray of concrete accessories, including pottery in more utilitarian shapes. Calming shades such as pearl and lighter-colored linen will also add a serene air to certain spaces.

CONFIDENT COLORS

Furniture in reds and “burnt yellow” hues such as coriander or turmeric will be all the rage.

GREENERY

Bring a little bit more nature into your home by introducing plenty of verdant houseplants. Feel free to express your own style by arranging them in creative patterns, using pots that either hang or sit on the floor. You might even find the right space in your home to try a “wonderwall”—a vertical planting system that covers an entire wall area.
