The Sears Tower is easily recognized by its steely black façade and twin white antennae. But pretty soon Chicago’s tallest building will also be celebrated for its innovative green characteristics.
Chicago’s crowning glory of architecture is undergoing an extensive five-year overhaul to make the skyscraper more eco-friendly. Renovations include the installation of wind turbines, green roofs and solar panels, which will slash electricity consumption by 80% and conserve 24 million gallons of water per year. The plan also calls for more energy-efficient exterior glass panes, heating and cooling systems, lighting and elevators.
An educational center about the $350 million project is slated to open on the ground level of the tower. The general public is welcome to visit the center to learn more about the Sears’ green makeover and how it will positively impact the environment.
As the first real estate agency to receive Green Leadership Certification companywide, Dream Town is an established advocate for a greener Chicago through sustainable building and home construction.

Good for the owners because it makes it easier to lease as well.
