How are Rising Gas Prices Affecting Today’s Home Buyers?

With the increased cost of gas, some real estate agencies are seeing a shift in what house hunters are looking for in a home. It used to be people didn’t mind living away from where they worked in order to get the home they wanted… Now, home buyers are expressing interest in properties near their jobs – just to save money on the commute.


This is a relatively new development on the residential real estate front, but it may be a growing trend as Americans look for ways to reduce fuel usage and conserve funds. And with the average gas price hovering just under $4 per gallon, who can blame them!


Cities like Chicago are in a good position to offer buyers what they want. There are plenty of properties that put employees in close proximity to their work and/or public transportation. The downtown Loop has exploded with condominiums in recent years and other neighborhoods on the major “L” routes have great inventories of different housing options to suit all preferences and budgets.
