LEED-certified Chicago Condos Part IV

By now, if you’ve been keeping track, you know Chicago is sprinkled with green-inspired new constructions. Environmentally sustainable living isn’t limited to the city, though. There are LEED accredited residences in the Chicago suburbs, too. In Evanston, which lies just north of Chicago’s northern border, Winthrop Club Condominiums are the talk of the town because of the development’s strong commitment to building green.

The 15-story, glass structure incorporates elements of green design such as water and energy conservation and using materials from sustainable resources. When it is completed in 2009, Winthrop hopes to secure the U.S. Green Building Council’s Silver LEED rating (on a scale of five levels – Certified, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum). The condominiums will be Evanston’s first residential building with LEED recognition and aspires to collect over 25 credits from the five different rating categories evaluated for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design label.

Winthrop Club is located at 1567 Maple in downtown Evanston. It houses 99 units with a variety of floor plans, including penthouses on the top floor. Prices start in the low $300,000s for a one-bedroom, one-bath condo and surpass the million-dollar mark for the larger condo units.
